TALLINN – Estonia is ready to discuss the situation in the Strait of Hormuz if the United States wishes to hold consultations with its allies, Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said on Monday.
"We are always ready for discussions with the US, including now regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. However, this primarily means we need to understand the US's objectives and plans in the ongoing conflict," Tsahkna said.
According to the foreign minister, NATO's focus must remain on the Euro-Atlantic area and Russia's aggression in Ukraine.
"The conflict in the Middle East has demonstrated that the security of Europe and the Middle East are closely intertwined. While Russia supports Iran, Ukraine has shown its willingness to assist the Gulf states and cooperate with the US in the region," Tsahkna said. "Therefore, it is clear that support for Ukraine and pressure on Russia must continue."
