Smiltens calls for clear roadmap for strengthening energy independence

RIGA - A clear road map is needed to strengthen energy independence, Saeima Speaker Edvards Smiltens (United List) said today during a meeting with Danish Ambassador to Latvia Flemming Stender.

As LETA was told at the Saeima press office, Smiltens also noted that in the current times of uncertainty close defense cooperation can prove crucial.

The Saeima speaker thanked Denmark for its decision to renew its military presence in Latvia. The ambassador assured Smiltens of Denmark's firm commitment to strengthening Baltic defense. 

Smiltens and Stenders also discussed prospects for attracting investment to strengthen national economies and the challenges investors face in Latvia. They also discussed cooperation in the field of education and the interest of Latvian students in studying in Denmark.

The Danish ambassador had arrive at the Latvian parliament on a farewell visit, and the Saeima speaker noted Stender's personal contribution to strengthening bilateral ties.
