RIGA - One of the United List leaders, MP Edvards Smiltens has turned to the State Security Service, claiming that former Latvia's MEP Andrejs Mamikins be held accountable for public glorification of crimes against peace and war crimes, as the United List spokeswoman Mudrite Grundule informed LETA.

The Security Service earlier said it was already looking into Mamikins' public activities.

"From a journalist of Latvia and our country's representative at the European Parliament to a henchman of murderers - that is the path of betrayal. And it does not matter what the motives were - money, documents or something else," notes Smiltens.

The former Saeima speaker emphasizes it is important that we are not at peace with this and points out that there is ample evidence of glorification of war crimes, justification of murderers and rapists and denigration of Latvia by Mamikins. Hence Smiltens' decision to turn to the Security Service's head Normunds Mezviets, asking that criminal proceedings be opened against Mamikins.
