Rinkevics to meet with Estonian foreign minister in Valka

RIGA - On September 9 in Valka, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkevics, will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Urmas Reinsalu, who is coming to Latvia on a working visit.

The ministers will discuss the bilateral relations between Latvia and Estonia, regional cooperation, support for Ukraine, and various topics on the international agenda, LETA was told by the Foreign Ministry.

In an official ceremony in Valka Local History Museum, the two Ministers will present the annual Languages Award bestowed by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Latvia and Estonia for contribution to the promotion of the Latvian and Estonian languages. The award is already being presented for the thirteenth time.

After the ceremony, the Foreign Ministers will depart for Valga in Estonia to take part in the presentation of a report on future cooperation between Latvia and Estonia. 

The report titled “Latvia-Estonia Cooperation: A New Turning Point?” includes an analytical overview of cooperation between the two countries in the context of increasing challenges and sets out areas for practical bilateral cooperation; it also offers recommendations for the improvement and development of bilateral relations. The report was drawn up by the researcher and former diplomat, Janis Eichmanis, on the part of Latvia, and the journalist Ragnar Kond, on the part of Estonia.
