President supports Kosovo's EU integration process

RIGA - Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics has expressed support for Kosovo's integration process into the European Union (EU), Martins Dregeris, adviser to the president, told LETA.

On Wednesday, Rinkevics met with Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations, cooperation in international organisations and Belgrade-Pristina dialogue efforts.

In discussing bilateral relations between the two countries, Rinkevics said that the Latvian Presidency of the Council of Europe had demonstrated a constructive approach and that Latvia had voted in favor of the Committee of Ministers' decision to refer Kosovo's application to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

The UN General Assembly runs from September 18 to 22.
