RIGA - The biggest shopping center in Latvia, Alfa Centrs, was opened in Riga on June 7, in place of a former Soviet electronics factory. The selling space of the new shopping center is 21,000 square meters and it has parking places for 2,000 cars. Forty shops offer a variety of goods, including clothes, jewelry, interior furnishings, souvenirs and home appliances.

The real estate company Linstow Varner has invested $22 million in the first stage of the project. The second stage involves the reconstruction of the second floor and is supposed to be completed by the year's end. The company is currently negotiating with possible tenants.

When the second stage is completed the total floor space will be 60,000 square meters. Linstow Varner has put the final price tag at about $40 million.
