Anniversary rally held without incident

RIGA - A rally March 3 near the Riga City Council by mostly Russian-speaking pensioners was far less chaotic than a similar event staged exactly one year ago. Organized by the opposition party "For Equal Rights in a United Latvia," the picket was scheduled for March 3 to mark the first anniversary of a similar rally that turned violent when Latvian police used their billy-clubs to disperse the crowd when it refused to clear the street.
