Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Roivas visited buildings and companies in Harju County that are important from the point of view of Estonia’s energy security.

On Tuesday, July 1, Roivas said that Estonia’s strategic objective is to achieve energy independence from Russia’s supply sources. “The most important steps on this path involve building a new power line between Estonia and Latvia and constructing a gas pipeline between Estonia and Finland,” he stated.

The Estonian head of government visited one of the potential locations for the Estonian head of the gas pipeline Balticconnector, on Pakri Peninsula,  reports LETA.

That pipeline was one of the focal issues during Roivas’ meeting with Finnish Prime Minister Alexander Stubb on Monday.

“The gas pipeline is of great strategic importance for both countries and we agreed that Estonia and Finland would move forward with this project as quickly as possible,” the Estonian Prime Minister said.
