from wire reports, VILNIUS

On Thursday evening, the debates of Lithuanian presidential candidates will begin. Five debate shows will be broadcasted by the national television LRT before the first round of elections, moderated by journalist Edmundas Jakilaitis.

It has been decided that not two randomly picked candidates will take part in each debate show but, instead, all of them will participate at once. The host said that this will provide equal opportunities. The candidates will not even be allowed to choose who to stand next to, spots will be assigned alphabetically, reports ELTA.

The first debate show will begin today, this Thursday, at 21:15. The show will focus on issues related to economy.

On 24 April, from 21:15 to 23:00, the topics of social policy, health care, and education will be discussed.

On 1 May, from 21:00 to 22:45, debates on law enforcement, law and order, and fight against corruption will take place.

On 8 May, from 19:00 to 20:25 and from 21:00 to 21:55, foreign policy will be discussed.

On 9 May, from 19:00 to 20:25 and from 21:00 to 22:15, the final debate show will be broadcast.
