With the busiest of winter holidays approaching, when mail volumes at the postal service increase worldwide, Lithuania Post encourages senders to submit data on declarable items on the Post’s Web site, reports ELTA. The documents submitted through a special program enable the declaring of items much faster, the company said in a statement.

"During the holiday season when workloads increase considerably at post offices, data submitted online make our work easier and speeds up handling of items. When necessary documents on items are submitted online, 99 percent of items are submitted for customs within 3 hours of data receipt," says Director of Postal Operations Division Robertas Gudavicius.

Presently, 30-40 percent of addressees submit data for customs declaration online on the Web site www.post.lt. According to Gudavicius, this number is expected to reach 80 percent in the years to come.

Data on items for declaration can be submitted by e-mail to: [email protected]. Data submitted by e-mail are processed within 12 hours.
