Political party merger must not be blocked – Lithuania’s PM

VILNIUS - Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius says that the merger of the Labor Party and the Order and Justice party cannot be obstructed, reports ELTA.

"I think that there must not be any political blocks but there are other legal problems over the Labor party criminal case. Anyways, I think that it is a separate issue and it has nothing to do with the party Order and Justice," said the PM in an interview with radio Ziniu Radijas.

Butkevicius does not think that the merger of the parties is a way for the Labor Party to escape from legal liability.

"No, I think that it is impossible because criminal proceedings are currently carried out and judges must do justice in Lithuania. I think that politicians should not interfere in these processes at all," said Butkevicius.

As reported, the two partie - the Labor Party and the Order and Justice have scheduled official merger in April.
