VILNIUS - The Labor Party is suggesting the candidacy of actor Juozas Gaizauskas to the post of the culture minister.

The news was confirmed to reporters by incoming Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius.

"I cannot comment anything now, I have not yet met him," said Butkevicius when he was asked to give his opinion on the candidate.

The incoming PM noted that personally does not know the candidate, but has seen his stage performance.

When asked if an actor could be a minister too, Butkevicius said: "[Yes - Elta] if the person has acting skills and substantial support from art and culture people, if the person understands how to manage the whole system. In this situation, we cannot talk about culture in its narrow meaning: it also involves libraries, cultural centers, investment projects, the Council of Culture," the incoming PM said.
