Residents may have to pay for national media

RIGA - Latvian residents may have to pay up to 1 lat (1.4 euros) a month for the national media, newspaper Dienas Bizness writes today.

National Electronic Mass Media Council deputy chairwoman Aija Dulevska reveals that talks about the payments have taken place with the finance minister.

Audit company KPMG will evaluate sources of funding for the national media in Latvia. Based on the company's conclusions, a decision will be made regarding media financing model in the future.

According to experts surveyed by the newspaper, Latvia's residents could have to pay 0.5 to 1 lat a month for using the public media.
