Latvia rejects Russian in landmark referendum

RIGA - Latvians have overwhelmingly rejected Russian as a second language in a controversial and highly divisive national referendum. The motion, which would have changed the country’s constitution to make Russian an official state language, was shot down by a vote of 74.8 percent to 24.8 percent with less than half a percent of ballots invalid.
