VILNIUS - The fire of Jan. 26 in the Museum of Sacred Arts, which is situated in the architectural ensemble of St. Mary the Virgin Church and the Bernardine Monastery in Tytuvenai, the district of Kelme, caused losses which Lithuanian PM Andrius Kubilius, Culture Minister Arunas Gelunas and the Church preferred to conceal during the first days after the fire. “Only 10 percent of the museum’s items are lost,” Gelunas said after the fire, but he did not mention that this 10 percent includes gold and silver monstrances of the 16th-19th centuries decorated with diamonds and...
