What Now?

There is one thing which we know for certain in Latvia’s political world right now – outgoing President Valdis Zatlers has proposed the dissolution of the Saeima, or Parliament. There is another thing about which we should have no doubt – in the referendum on this matter on July 23, the people of Latvia will uphold his proposal. The latest public opinion surveys show that just 10 percent or so of the country’s residents have a positive opinion about the Saeima, and so it would be most unlikely for them to decide that no, this same bunch should keep on working....
