RIGA - Approximately 200 people have turned out for a protest against the government's ongoing austerity programs, which features significant tax hikes in addition to further cuts to spending.

Prosters held signs reading "No to austerity!", "Yes to growth!", and "Will the banks also pay for the crisis?", LETA reported.

The protest was held in front of the cabinet of ministers building despite a sharp drop in temperatures and snowfall that lasted throughout the day.
