New basketball head coach appointed in Latvia

RIGA - Ainars Bagatskis has been appointed the new head coach of the Latvian National Basketball team at a Latvian Basketball Association (LBA) meeting on Feb. 3, LETA reported.

Bagatskisis Latvia's all time lead scorer and has represented the country at four European Championships. He is currently head coach of a Russian league team.

''It is a challenge and honor to become the head coach of the national team. At the same time, it is a huge responsibility, because the whole country closely follows and feels for the national team,'' Bagatskis said previously.
