H1N1 cases skyrocket

RIGA - The number of cases of the AH1N1 influenza virus, also known as swine flu, in Latvia have skyrocketed over the past week, increasing from about 80 last week to more than 380 on Nov. 16.

The cities of Daugavpils - where the disease has been declared an epidemic - Rezekne, Gulbene, Jelgava and Riga have been most affected by the outbreak.

A total of 386 cases of the disease have so far been registered in the country. There has been one death and 18 people have been hospitalized.
