Renewables compete with non-renewables in delivering energy needs

TALLINN - Experts say that renewable energy, at least for the Baltic states, will be most viable only from wind and bio-energy sources. While looking at the windy conditions off the Baltic sea, the most attractive wind areas are comparable with those of inland Denmark. Wind conditions in the coastal areas of the Baltics are comparable also with those on the coast of Spain, and inland France and Germany (with average wind speeds of 5.5-6.5 m/s).
