There’s light at the end of Latvia’s tunnel

From abroad the news about Latvia is apocalyptic. A Spiegel article said the country’s “on the brink of bankruptcy.” It has entered a “world of bust” according to the BBC. If you’ve never been there, the impression is that when you arrive the streets will be thronged with beggars, albeit ones dressed in Dolce & Gabbana. But as I type away on the laptop in the beer garden in Riga’s Dome Square, it’s full of people relaxing and drinking. And they’re not dourly staring ...
