Grybauskaite to run for president

Feb 26, 2009
From wire reports

VILNIUS - European Union Commissioner Dalia Grybauskaite has announced that she will run in this year's presidential elections in Lithuania.

The leader of Lithuania's ruling Homeland Union - Christian Democrats, Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius, has applauded the decision, pledging to urge his party to support her candidacy.

"Lithuania and the rest of the world are still in the state of uncertainty regarding economic development in the near future, therefore, it is my belief that it is vital for a country to be headed by a person who enjoys the nation's trust," Kubilius told BNS.
