TALLINN- In a yearly effort to combat the ever present darkness, Tallinn residents gear up for their Festival of Lights. Event organizers have planned hikes in the outdoors, and are strewing colored lights and bottle lamps on the bus station.

Though the event runs from late December to the end of Jauary, the two last weeks of January are the most festive. Residents may have already noticed the sculptures lighting up Tallinn'sOldTown.

A fire and ice light show commemorating the Chinese New Year will take place  in Kadriorg park on Jan. 24.
