Track gambling to begin in Lithuania

VILNIUS - A Lithuanian-British company has announced plans to start a service for gambling on horse and dog races. The company will be the first to offer track gambling in Lithuania.

Simas Denisovas, the director of Baltic Bet, said that the company expected to start operations in October.

"This will be English-style betting. People will watch, on TV, races taking place in other countries and place bets," he told the Baltic News Service.

Baltic Bet intends to invest around 400,000 litas (116,000 euros) in its first sports betting shop in Vilnius, with plans to expand into otherLithuaniancities and towns, as well as into Latvia and Estonia, in the future, the director said.

The company also has plans to open slot machine halls, he said.

The LithuanianState Gaming Control Commission issued an operating license to Baltic Bet on Friday.
