TALLINN -- A former advisor at the Estonian ministry of agriculture has been declared a suspect in a high-profile bribery case, the Estonian-language daily Eesti Paevaleht reported.

Former advior Alar Oppar was declared a suspect in a case aginst a Danish fishery businessman who allegedly gave the official a bribe last May.

Oppar denies the charges, saying that his duties did not even involve fisheries while he worked at the ministry.

"My task was to advise the minister on farming, food processing and rural life. I did not deal with fishery and ministry officials can confirm this," he said.
