Gov. to disband two secretariats

RIGA - The Latvian ruling coalition has decided to dissolve two ofthe country's "special affairs ministries" in an effort to cut back ongovernment spending.

The government will liquidate the Integration ministry andthe EU fund absorption ministry but keep the e-affairs ministry, Prime MinisterIvars Godmanis said after an informal coalition meeting on Monday.

"Large governmental reorganization does not need to beperformed at present, as the budget situation is difficult - it has to beadopted and fulfillment thereof attempted," the prime minister said.

It is still not clear which full-fledged ministries willtake up the duties of the liquidated special affairs ministries.
