Chain of robberies in Latvia

Jul 11, 2008
In cooperation with BNS

RIGA - On the night of July 8, Dole shopping mall was robbed. Police have linked this to a chain of similar robberies.

Twenty pieces of jewelry were stolen from another mall “Galerija Centrs”. Two as yet known robbers broke into the popular downtown mall with an axe, making their getaway on a scooter.

In the opinion of the Minister of the Interior Mareks Seglins, the robberies are unacceptable and the situation is very serious.
According to him, the video monitors and surveillance cameras in Riga’s Center are not doing their part to help stop crime.

The Minister is to meet with the police Chief Dailis Luks in order to gain more information about this chain of events and to hopefully come up with a viable solution to the problem.
