The Latvian Interior Ministry has worked out draft amendments to the law on identification documents to have data about the holder's ethnic origin dropped from the passports of both citizens and non-citizens, the governmental press service told BNS.
At present it is possible, at the request of the ID card or passport holder, to enter information about ethnic origin alongside the data about the person's date of birth and other particulars. In line with the ministry's proposals, the law will no longer contain the clause regarding the inclusion of this data in Latvian passports.
The amendments proposed by the ministry still need to be submitted for consideration at a meeting of state secretaries.
