77,000 euros hidden on Riga bound bus

Nov 22, 2006
By TBT staff

On Nov. 22, workers at the criminal customs inspectorate of the Latvian tax service found and took $60,000 and 30,000 euros (76,808 euro total) that were hidden on a bus at the Grentale border crossing. The bus was traveling from Prague to Riga. The money was stuffed into plastic bags which were tightly wound together with packaging tape. It is not clear who tried to send the money to Riga, but an investigation is under way. The internal revenue service reminded bus drivers not to accept packages if they don't know what is in them, as packages may also contain dangerous or forbidden substances.
