Estonia faces a general election in March 2007, and the prime ministerial candidates are already jockeying for position. This year, there are some fresh faces, one of whom is Tartu University rector Jaak Aaviksoo. The academic will resign as rector of the nation's largest, oldest and most respected institution to stand as a candidate for the main opposition party, the Union of Pro Patria and Res Publica.
