Minimum wage hike proposed

The Latvian Welfare Ministry proposed raising the minimum wage from 90 to 120 lats (171 euros) as of Jan. 1, 2007, the ministry reported.
The change would apply to nearly 83,000 employees in the private and public sectors. The change would require an additional 9.1 million lats from the state budget in 2007.
