Lithuanian swimmer may represent Qatar

VILNIUS - Lithuanian swimmer Rolandas Gimbutis will represent the Middle Eastern country Qatar, and could possibly become a citizen, the Lietuvos Rytas daily reported on Dec. 13. The athlete, who swam for Lithuania during the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and at last year's Games in Athens, has so far given only verbal consent to his Qatar recruiters. But, the daily reported, Gimbutis will soon sign an official agreement with the country and gain citizenship.Qatar has pledged to provide the 24-year-old, who is currently studying in the United States at the University of California, Berkeley,...
