Riga Days 2004 - from sea to sky

  • 2004-08-19
Get ready for another helping of Latvian folk culture. Keeping with recent - and almost out-worn - Riga fashion, the streets of the Latvian capital will again be swept up in a festival storm of dancing, singing, flowers, and the oh-so-familiar Latvian food, art and craft market.

But to be fair, this year's city celebration will have some not so traditional excitement as well. The party will commence with a colorful hot air balloon show and will also include the International Sacred Music Festival. And what is sure to be the highlight of Riga Days, the F-2000 World Champion Hydroplane Competition will tear up the Daugava River on Aug. 21 and 22. Festival attendees will also have the chance to tour the historical Stubnitz ship, built in Germany in 1964 as a fishing boat. Beginning on Aug. 18, the festival will continue until Aug. 23.
