The time for action is now.

Dec 18, 2003

Lithuania needs to stop the corruption in its postal service. There can be no growth in finance and commerce without a mail service that is trustworthy. The mail service now is the butt of jokes by other countries.

When I mailed my package last week to Vilnius the U.S. postal worker said that everyone knew that the Lithuanian postal service was corrupt and the package would be opened and either stolen or parts missing.
And it was. The package arrived opened (it was double sealed), and gifts for a new baby were stolen. How can this country expect to arrive in the 21st century with corruption at the core of its society? If only one postal worker could be caught and imprisoned that would hopefully become a lesson for the rest. This should be the first order of business.
