RIGA - The new parliament convincingly supports continuing Latvia's transatlantic integration, Saeima Chairwoman Inara Murniece (National Alliance) said during the annual foreign policy debates in the parliament today.

Latvia cannot stop at what it has achieved so far due to global developments, and society expects the parliament to pursue active foreign policy.

Security is of paramount importance to Latvia's independence, said Murniece. Taking into account Russia's armament plans, chemical attack in Great Britain, aggression in Ukraine, the current security risks are high.

That is why Murniece has a high opinion of Canada's determination to continue heading the NATO battalion in Latvia until 2023.
