TALLINN - NATO and European Union roundtable dedicated to the 75th anniversary of NATO kicked off in Tallinn at 8:55 a.m. on Thursday -- the event is being held in the Nordic Hotel Forum and is organized by the Estonian Atlantic Treaty Association.

The 2024 roundtable is the twelfth edition of the event. The conference was opened by Estonia's former president Toomas Hendrik Ilves. Other speakers include Benedetta Berti, head of policy planning in the office of the secretary general of NATO, Riho Terras, MEP, former commander of the Estonian defense forces and chairman of the council of the Estonian Atlantic Treaty Association, George P. Kent, ambassador of the United States of America, and many other high officials.

Marie-Doha Besancenot, NATO assistant secretary general for public diplomacy, said she is glad that NATO can celebrate its 75th anniversary with such close friends like the Estonian Atlantic Treaty Association.

"This year marks both the 70th anniversary of the Atlantic Treaty Association, the umbrella organization of NATO associations, as well as the 20th anniversary of Estonia's accession to NATO. We have much to celebrate, but the most important thing is the preservation of the transatlantic alliance, which has kept the peace for 75 years. The efforts of the Atlantic Treaty Association, the umbrella organization of NATO associations, including Estonia, have been key in maintaining support for NATO over the years," she said.

The NATO-EU Roundtable 2024 is a multidisciplinary conference focused on the active participation of security experts and enthusiasts, emerging leaders and young professionals from around the world.
