VILNIUS – Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anusauskas is to take part in an informal meeting of EU defense ministers in the Spanish city of Toledo on Tuesday.

The visit will start at the EU Satellite Centre in Madrid, the Lithuanian Defense Ministry has said in a press release.

The informal meeting is to focus on the EU's military support for Ukraine and the escalating security situation in Niger.

The bloc's defense ministers will discuss the ambitious goals of training more Ukrainian troops, and military support to Kyiv, and considerations for a new package of support to the country for the 2024-2027 period, according to the press release.

Together with representatives from the United Nations and NATO, who will also attend the informal meeting, Anusauskas will discuss Russia's threats to regional and global security, and the security situation on the EU's eastern borders, in West Africa and the Western Balkans.

It is planned that Denmark will join the Lithuanian-led PESCO Cyber Rapid Response Team (CRRT) project aimed at consolidating the cyber capabilities of member states to respond to potential cyber incidents or crises, the ministry said.
