VILNIUS – Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis has voiced support for North Macedonia’s efforts to become a European Union’s (EU) member sooner.

On Tuesday, Landsbergis met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia Bujar Osmani on the sidelines of the conference “Quo Vadis, Europe?” organized by the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell in Santander, Spain, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

“Lithuania understands and supports North Macedonia’s efforts to accelerate accession negotiations with the EU. We very much hope that Macedonian politicians will be able to find consensus and adopt the necessary constitutional changes,” the press release quoted Landsbergis as saying.

The two ministers also discussed further support for Kyiv. North Macedonia has already provided military support for Ukraine.

Ministers also focused on the work of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). North Macedonia chairs the organization this year.

In addition to North Macedonia, the list of EU candidates or potential candidates currently includes Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine, Georgia, and Kosovo.
