RIGA - Kristine Lice, Latvia's representative to international human rights institutions, has accepted President-elect Edgars Rinkevics' offer to become his adviser on legislation and international law, Rinkevics said on social networks.

Lice has been representing Latvia to international human rights bodies since May 14, 2012. On May 9 this year, the government extended her mandate until May 13, 2027.

Latvia's interests in court and in the framework of the supervisory mechanism of UN conventions are defended by a representative appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers. The representative is appointed at the Foreign Ministry's recommendation, which is agreed with the justice minister.

As reported, the Saeima elected Rinkevics Latvia's next president on May 31. He is due to take office as head of state on July 8.
