Levits thanks Azerbaijan for contribution to strengthening Euro-Atlantic security

RIGA - President Egils Levits during a meeting with Azerbaijan's Parliament Speaker Sahiba Gafarova on Thursday thanked Azerbaijan for its contribution to strengthening Euro-Atlantic security by participating in NATO-led operations, particularly in Afghanistan.

Justine Deicmane, head of the president's press office, told LETA that Levits highly appreciated Azerbaijan's active participation in the Council of Europe and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), as well as the initiative calling for a UN-level response to global challenges like the Covid-19 pandemic. 

The Latvian president underlined the role of multilateralism in maintaining an international law-based world order, including in matters concerning countries' sovereignty and territorial integrity. 

The two officials noted good bilateral relations between their countries, promoted by interparliamentary dialogue and economic exchange, particularly in transport and logistics.
