Latvian luge team ends 2016/2017 World Cup season with silver medals in team relay

ALTENBERG - The Latvian luge team won silver medals in the team relay in Altenberg, Germany, on Sunday, ending the 2016/2017 World Cup season second also in the final standings.

The German quartet, made up of Natalie Geisenberger, Felix Loch, and Toni Eggert/Sascha Benecken, who had already been awarded the title of overall winners prior to the final race, went on to win the final race at the Viessmann Team Relay World Cup on February 26.

The Latvian team, made up of Eliza Cauce, Kristers Aparjods and Andris Sics/Juris Sics, finished second and the Russian team of Tatyana Ivanova, Roman Repilov, and Vladislav Yuzhakov/Iurii Prokhorov ended up in the third place.

The Latvian team ranked second also in the season's final standings. It is the first time when the Latvians have taken one of the top three positions at the end of the season. The Latvian team finished the previous season in the fifth place.
