Latvia to continue to support Moldova's eurointegration - Rinkevics

RIGA - Latvia will continue to support Moldova's  eurointegration, Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics stressed at a meeting with Moldova's Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu at the Riga Castle on Tuesday, president's aide Martins Dregeris told LETA.

The parties met to discuss bilateral cooperation between the two countries, Moldova's integration into the European Union (EU), regional security, as well as Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

During the meeting, Rinkevics underlined Latvia's support for Moldova's integration into the EU. He reiterated that Latvia supports and will continue to support Moldova's integration into the EU as soon as possible, providing both political and practical support.

The president confirmed Latvia's interest and readiness to continue cooperation with Moldova in development cooperation projects. At the same time, Rinkevics expressed satisfaction with the growing economic cooperation, especially in the field of information and communication technologies, as well as with the direct flights to Chisinau, which will be launched by the national airline airBaltic from Riga in May.

During the meeting, the president praised Moldova's firm stance towards Russia and its support for Ukraine, including by hosting Ukrainian refugees. Rinkevics also appreciated Moldova's resilience to Russia's hybrid threats, noting the support provided by Latvia.
