Latvia and Mexico agree to strengthen political and economic cooperation

RIGA - On Monday, the Under-Secretary of State, Political Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Andzejs Vilumsons, met with the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Carmen Moreno Toscano, for political consultations in Mexico City, LETA was told by the Foreign Ministry.

The Latvian and Mexican officials confirmed their commitment to developing cooperation in the field of higher education, air traffic, information and communication technologies. The diplomats discussed the opportunities for strengthening cooperation in international organizations, notably the United Nations.

Vilumsons thanked Mexico for its support for the principles of the UN Charter and for Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

During the meeting, the officials also discussed the current situation in the relations between the European Union and Mexico, as well as in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean. The third Summit of the EU and the Community of Latin America and Caribbean States (CELAC) held in Brussels on July 17-18 was welcomed by the consultation partners as a positive contribution to the development of economic and political dialogue between the regions.

As part of their visit, the Latvian delegation met with the Head of the European Union delegation to Mexico, the Ukrainian Ambassador to Mexico, the UN Resident Coordinator, experts from the COMEXI (El Consejo Mexicano de Asuntos Internacionales) think tank and well-known Mexican cultural and media workers.
