RIGA - Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) would support current President Egils Levits for a second term, he told TV this morning.

"I have had very good working relations with Mr. Levits, and I would support his re-election to the post. I have not yet spoken about this with party members, but I have not heard bad reviews from anyone," when asked whether he would support Levits' nomination for president.

At the same time, there has been no discussion with party members about whether Levits could be supported and nominated for a second term.

Levits was elected president of Latvia in 2019 to a four-year term.

The previous president, Raimonds Vejonis, served from 2015 to 2019, and did not run for a second term.
