ST. PETERSBURG - The Ivangorod motor checkpoint at the Russian-Estonian border in Russia's Leningrad region will be closed on Feb. 1 for renovations that may take two and a half years, head of the service for organization of customs control at the Russian Northwestern Customs Department Alexander Vinogradov told reporters on Thursday.

"It will be closed for approximately two and a half years. Perhaps, the Transport Ministry, Rosgranstroy, will provide further details later," Vinogradov said.

Only the motor checkpoint will be closed, while pedestrian traffic will continue, he said.

The Russian government resolution ordering that the Ivangorod motor checkpoint at the Russian-Estonian border be closed from February 1, 2024, was published in November 2023.
