Georgia must do everything possible to comply with EU recommendations and obtain candidate status - Rinkevics

RIGA - Georgia must do everything possible to comply with the European Union (EU) recommendations and obtain the candidate status, President of Latvia Edgars Rinkevics stressed at a meeting with Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili at Riga Castle today.

The advisor to the president Martins Dregeris told LETA that the parties met to discuss Georgia's European integration process.

Rinkevics urged for more progress in the implementation of reforms and the fulfilment of recommendations for EU candidate status. At the same time, the President of Latvia noted that the overwhelming majority of Georgians support Georgia's irreversible path towards EU membership.

Rinkevics also noted that Georgia should join the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy, including the EU sanctions against Russia.
