Foreign minister of Latvia and Guatemala sign memorandum of understanding

RIGA - On Thursday, on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Latvian Foreign Minister Krisjanis Karins met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Mario Adolfo Bucaro Flores, LETA was told by the Foreign Ministry.

As part of the meeting, the Foreign Ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a mechanism for bilateral political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs. The officials confirmed their readiness to strengthen bilateral relations and to develop economic cooperation, in particular, in the field of digital technologies.

The Ministers acknowledged that the third Summit of the EU and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), held in Brussels this past July, had made a positive contribution to the development of the economic and political dialogue of the regions. Relations between the regions in all the matters of common interest need to be further intensified and reinforced.

During the conversation, Karins commended Guatemala’s strong support for Ukraine. Both ministers agreed on the need to continue working together to strengthen the rules-based international system and joint action in order to safeguard peace, security and prosperity across the globe.
