Hundreds of talented artists from all over the world will perform in the breathtaking setting of the Grand Courtyard of the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, next to the iconic Vilnius Cathedral.

The “Midsummer Vilnius” festival is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in unique performances, witness exceptional international collaborations, and be among the first to view world premieres.

The festival’s mission is to initiate sensitive, relevant, and aesthetically inclusive outdoor art, presenting a wellspring of cultural inspiration for a contemporary metropolis.

Festival attendees can anticipate 10 remarkable performances every year, ranging from opera under the stars to a wild electronic music bash with an orchestra, and many more. Here are some top festival picks that are worth traveling a thousand kilometers to experience.

GREGORY PORTER WITH THE LITHUANIAN CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

The Grammy-winning jazz vocalist Gregory Porter will open the ninth “Midsummer Vilnius” Festival on 15 July 2024. This is a rare opportunity to experience Gregory Porter’s one–time performance alongside the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra under the glorious summer sky.

ROE DEERS ORCHESTRA

Electronic music producer and DJ Roe Deers will fulfill a long-cherished dream this year. On the evening of July 17th, he will create a royal electronic music party together with the festival orchestra. Roe Deers found his musical calling at the age of 12. As a teenager, he began collecting vinyl records and playing at his parents’ nightclub. It wasn’t long before well-known nightclubs in Lithuania and Europe were opening their doors to the artist.

HANIA RANI

Hania Rani, an acclaimed sound aesthete whose live concert recordings garner millions of listens, is making her Lithuanian debut. On July 19th, she will create a unique performance with piano, synthesizers, and rhythm machines at the “Midsummer Vilnius” festival. Her performances have already been immortalized by renowned radio stations such as NPR and KEXP, and the geography of her concerts expands further every year.

MARTYNAS LEVICKIS

Charismatic accordion virtuoso Martynas Levickis will perform passionate music that has resonated through the finest, most prestigious concert halls worldwide. In his concerts, you’ll enjoy both Hollywood-famed hits and melodies from centuries past, performed by the musician on the unconventional accordion, derived from folklore. While building a successful international career in Germany, the virtuoso became a visiting professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London in 2023 and won the prestigious “Opus Klassik” music award – he was named instrumentalist of the year.

NATURALLY 7

On July 24th, one of the world’s most famous a cappella groups, “Naturally 7,” will bring vocal magic onto the stage. The vocal orchestra, comprised of seven virtuosos, promise to deliver a special program crafted exclusively for this evening – vibrant, vivid, and romantic – perfect listening while sitting under the open sky. A unique sonic experience created during the performance will be enhanced by the festival’s innovative “Immersive Sound” audio technology.

OPERA UNDER THE STARS

On the evening of 25 July, French composer Bizet’s masterpiece, Carmen, will be presented on stage. The performance features one of Lithuania’s most talented opera soloists, Edgaras Montvidas, celebrated for his portrayal of over 40 roles at esteemed venues such as the English National Opera and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. Joining him will be French mezzo-soprano Stéphanie d’Oustrac, accompanied by the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Modestas Pitrėnas, along with other distinguished guests of the evening.
