TALLINN - In a meeting with Speaker of the Latvian Parliament Daiga Mierina, Estonian President Alar Karis said that Estonia and Latvia must work together to ensure that the offshore wind energy areas planned by both countries are connected as efficiently as possible.

"New topics related to connections keep emerging. In addition to traditional transport-related issues, new joint energy infrastructure must be developed," the Estonian head of state said.

"We must work together to ensure that the offshore wind energy areas planned by Estonia and Latvia are connected as efficiently as possible. Efforts are being made to desynchronize our power grids from Russia at a faster pace than initially planned," Karis highlighted.

The president added that the difficult economic conditions and inflation in the Baltic region urge to consider how to finance major projects and involve European funds.

Karis noted that Estonia and Latvia see Russia's aggression in Ukraine and the support for Ukraine in the same way, but efforts must be made to ensure that countries farther from the war zone understand the two states' positions.
