RIGA - This past weekend, the second corpse of a newborn child this year was found in Kurzeme, State Police (VP) spokeswoman Madara Sersnova told LETA.
On the morning of May 12, the VP received information that the corpse of a newborn child had been found in a garbage container in a parking lot in Ventspils. The VP has opened criminal proceedings.
Information from the public would be useful. The law enforcement authorities are appealing to residents who have information about women who were pregnant but do not have a baby in their care. Any information is useful for the investigation and will be verified. Anonymity is guaranteed by the VP.
As reported, on March 7, the VP received information that the body of a newborn baby girl had been found in Grobina County at a waste sorting point.
The VP initiated criminal proceedings under Chapter XIII of the Criminal Code "Crimes against personal health" and ordered expert examinations to determine the cause of death of the newborn.
